International Day Against Racism 2009

On the 21st March, members of the Galway Anti racism strategy including GRSG and the Galway City Partnership came out to Eyre square to celebrate and mark International Day against Racism.

Michael D. Higgins took to the stage at approximately 2.30pm to highlight the importance of standing together against racism. He stressed that during times of economic difficulties, attitudes toward those from minority groups can often turn negative, which makes it even more important for us to stand together in solidarity. He also stressed the importance of people registering to vote in the up coming local elections and exercising their right to vote.

The Galway City Anti-Racism Strategy Group who organised the day were delighted with the number of people who showed solidarity with the Galway City Anti Racism Strategy ‘Towards a City of Equals’, which calls on people to reject racism in Galway by signing a declaration for Galway to become a city of equals.
